Softball Falls to UW-Oshkosh, Colby

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost a pair of games at Legends Way on Tuesday, falling 17-2 to UW-Oshkosh before dropping a 5-4 contest to Colby College.

Kalamazoo vs. UW-Oshkosh

UW-Oshkosh led 2-0 after two innings and 7-0 after five before a 10-run seventh inning made it 17-0. Kalamazoo pushed two runs across in the bottom of the seventh as UW-Oshkosh improved to 13-0 with the win. The Titans finished with 17 hits compared to six by Kalamazoo.

Shelby Bennett led the Hornets with two hits. Bella Caza had a single and an RBI.

Kalamazoo vs. Colby

Colby defeated Kalamazoo 5-4 Tuesday afternoon. Colby took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Kalamazoo scored three in the top of the fifth to go up 3-2, but two runs in the bottom half put the Mules back on top 4-3. Kalamzoo tied it with a run in the top of the sixth, but Colby scored in the bottom half to regain the lead and held on for the win.

Colby had seven hits in the game. Lizzy Rottenberk and Emma Newlove each had a hit for the Hornets. Newlove had a double and an RBI. Rottenberk, Landrie Fridsma and Francesca Ventura each had an RBI.

Kalamazoo faces No. 14 MIT on Wednesday morning. The Engineers moved up three spots in the Top 25 in this week's poll. The Hornets will then finish their spring trip with another game against Colby Wednesday afternoon.
