Jordan Cook of the Kalamazoo College softball team was selected as the MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday (Apr. 15). This is the second time in her career that the junior has earned the conference honor.
The Hornets continued their season with three doubleheaders against Calvin on Apr. 9, Saint Mary's on Apr. 13, and North Park on Apr. 14. Kalamazoo went 3-3 on the week with a split against the Knight (11-3 loss and 1-0 win), two losses to the Belles (2-0 and 5-4), and a sweep over the Vikings (3-0 and 4-3).
Cook made a start against each team, going 2-0 with two complete games and a shutout. In 18.2 innings, she allowed seven runs (four earned) on 20 hits and six walks with eight strikeouts and a 1.50 earned-run average. Against Calvin, Cook threw a complete game shutout, allowing five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. She started in the 5-4 loss to Saint Mary's and lasted 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with a strikeout. Cook also threw a complete game against North Park, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in the 4-3 win.
On the season, Cook is 5-3 in 11 appearances (10 starts) with four complete games and a shutout. In 55.1 innings, she has a 3.92 earned-run average and a 1.70 WHIP with 32 strikeouts compared to 18 walks allowed. The junior is 21-19 in 43 appearances (40 starts) for her career, with 23 complete games. Cook has a 4.73 career ERA in 237.0 innings with 139 strikeouts.
Kalamazoo will continue its season with four home doubleheaders against Olivet on Wednesday (Apr. 17), Aquinas on Thursday (Apr. 18), Hope on Saturday (Apr. 20), and Anderson on Sunday (Apr. 21).
