ALMA, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team was defeated 9-3 and 5-0 in an MIAA doubleheader at Alma College on Saturday.
Game One
Alma won the opener 9-3 behind 11 hits and three Hornet errors. Kalamazoo had seven hits in the game, while Alma committed two errors.
Alma scored a run in the first, two in the second and one in the third to take a 4-0 lead. After a Hornet run in the fifth, Alma added four runs in the bottom half to take an 8-1 lead. Kalamazoo made it 8-2 in the top of the sixth before an Alma run in the bottom half made it 9-2. Kalamazoo scored again in the seventh before stranding a runner on first to end the game.
Lizzy Rottenberk had two hits, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Landrie Fridsma had two hits including a double and an RBI.
Bella Caza singled and drove in a run. Emma Newlove singled and scored a run.
Maddy Vrba struck out three and walked one in four innings in the start. Cecilia Schihl struck out five and walked three in the final two innings.
Game Two
Alma scored two runs in the first, two in the third and one in the seventh en route to a 5-0 win over Kalamazoo in game two.
Alma had eights in the game while scattering five Hornet hits and stranding nine Hornet baserunners.
Brynna Garden led Kalamazoo with two hits in the game.
Landrie Fridsma, Jordan Wesaw and Jaycee Rider each had a single.
Jordan Cook struck out two and walked two in three innings in the start. Jordan Wesaw struck out five and walked one in four innings of relief.
