Lynsey VanSweden returned to the Hornet softball coaching staff for the 2018-19 season.

VanSweden graduated from Central Michigan University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, majoring in English and minoring in physical education. She caught for three years for the Chippewas after completing her first collegiate season with the Hornets.

A graduate of Comstock (Mich.) High School, VanSweden started every game all four years behind the plate and helped lead the Colts to their first and only appearance in the Michigan state title game. She earned recognition for all-conference (4), all-district (4), all-region (2), and all-state (1). She also played both basketball and volleyball for the Colts, and was inducted into the Comstock High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018.

VanSweden has coached both varsity volleyball and softball in North Carolina and was an assistant softball coach at Hackett Catholic Prep in Kalamazoo for two seasons. She is also an instructor at Softball Fans Academy providing catching and hitting lessons for all ages.

VanSweden, who also serves as Kalamazoo's assistant to the athletic director and compliance coordinator, earned a master’s degree in sport management at Western Michigan University in 2018.
