Antoine scores 22 in Women's Basketball loss to Oberlin

KALAMAZOO - Kalamazoo College's Nicole Antoine scored a career-high 22 points, but it wasn't enough as the Hornets were defeated 72-57 by Oberlin College on Saturday.

Oberlin scored the first 12 points of the game while holding Kalamazoo scoreless for the first five minutes. The Hornets followed with 10 straight points over the next three minutes to make it a 12-10 game before taking an 18-16 lead with 10:16 left in the half. The Yeowomen regained the lead and led by as many as 12 points late in the half before taking a 37-31 lead into the break.

Kalamazoo cut the deficit to two points (41-39) early in the second half, but the Hornets were never able to take the lead. It was a four point game (55-51) with 6:44 remaining, but the Yeowomen were able to hold on and extend the lead with free throws down the stretch.

Oberlin shot 45.3 percent from the field while sinking 18-of-21 free throws. Kalamazoo took 30 more shots from the field, but made just 30.1 percent overall (25-of-83). The Hornets were 6-of-8 at the free throw line.

Oberlin held a 47-43 advantage in rebounds, although Kalamazoo outrebounded Oberlin 20-8 on the offensive end. Kalamazoo turned the ball over just 12 times compared to 21 for Oberlin.

Nicole Antoine led Kalamazoo with a career-high 22 points with 10 rebounds.

Perri (Weiderman) Nicholson scored six points with eight rebounds off the bench. Emily Lindsay also scored six points while Hannah Maness and India Hoskins each finished with five points.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 with the start of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at home against Alma College at 6 p.m.
