Women's Basketball wins sixth straight

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team won its sixth straight game, defeating University of Dallas 69-66 in the Anderson Athletic Center on Monday.

Dallas (6-2) led most of the first half, including an eight-point lead (22-14) with 12:47 remaining and another (42-34) with 16 seconds left, before taking a 42-36 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo opened the second half with seven straight points to take a 43-42 lead. The changed hands six more times in the second half, with the visiting Lady Crusaders taking a 66-65 lead with 2:28 left in regulation.

Kalamazoo's Nicole Antoine put the Hornets back on top (67-66) with 1:07 remaining by hitting a shot in the paint after grabbing the third rebound of the offensive possession. Emily Lindsay sank a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left to put the Hornets up three, and Dallas was unable to connect on a 3-pointer as time expired.

Kalamazoo shot 35 percent from the field while sinking 22-of-26 free throws. Dallas shot 33.8 percent overall and made just 13-of-22 free throws. The Lady Crusaders held a 48-43 advantage in rebounds, including 17-12 on the offensive end. However, Kalamazoo outscored Dallas 13-7 on second chance points as well as 22-14 in the paint. The Hornets matched a season-low with just 12 turnovers while Dallas turned the ball over 15 times.

Emily Lindsay led Kalamazoo with a career-high 24 points with four rebounds and two assists.

Nicole Antoine finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Perri (Weiderman) Nicholson scored 12 points with nine rebounds, three blocked shots, two assists, and two steals.

India Hoskins and Grace Smith each scored six points. Hoskins grabbed four rebounds while Smith finished with seven.

Kalamazoo (6-4) returns to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at Adrian College on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. The Hornets then travel to Rochester College for a non-conference game on Sunday at 4 p.m.
