GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team fell 75-58 at Calvin in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play Saturday, Jan. 18.

Senior forward Nicole Antoine and junior guard Emily Lindsay finished with 12 points apiece. Junior guard Querubin Debois added 10 points off the bench.

Breanna Verkaik led Calvin with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Kalamazoo began the game strong with jumpers from junior forward Hannah Maness and junior guard India Hoskins. Hoskins converted the free throw after her jumper, and K led 5-0 early in the game.

Calvin, who came in at 10-4 on the season, took the lead with 12 minutes to play in the first half on a layup from Verkaik.

Leading 11-10, the Knights closed the first half on a 26-19 run. Despite being down by double-digits, K cut the Calvin lead to four points (40-36) on a layup from Antoine with 16:24 to play in regulation.

From that point, Calvin went on a 17-4 run in five minutes to close the game out.

As a team, Kalamazoo shot 33 percent (17-51) from the field while Calvin shot 39 percent (29-74). Both teams shot rather poorly from the free throw line. Kalamazoo converted 20-34 attempts for 59 percent while Calvin made just 10-20 for 50 percent.

Kalamazoo's downfall may have been turnovers. The Hornets committed 22 in the game and made only eight assists in the contest.

The loss dips Kalamazoo to 8-7 on the season and 4-3 in MIAA play. The Hornets return to action Wednesday, Jan. 22 when they travel to Angola, Ind. for a 7:00 p.m. game with Trine.
