Kozal scores 17 in loss at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 63-54 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at Adrian College on Wednesday.

The host Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and led 22-11 after the first period. Kalamazoo cut the deficit to 10 (39-29) going into halftime.

Adrian extended its lead to 15 in the third and led 53-40 going into the fourth. An Adrian 3-pointer early in the fourth put the Bulldogs up 16. Kalamazoo inched closer and cut the deficit to nine points, but time ran out before the comeback attempt could be completed.

Adrian shot 41.2 percent from the field while limiting Kalamazoo to just 23.8 percent. The Hornets went to the free throw line 30 times, converting 19, while Adrian was 0-2 at the line.

Emily Kozal led the Hornets with 17 points and five rebounds. Kelsey Adamski scored 12 with four rebounds and four assists.

Claire Slaughter scored nine points with a team-high 11 rebounds. Grace Smith finished with eight points and nine rebounds.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Alma College this Saturday, Jan. 9 at 3 p.m.
