Women's basketball defeats Adrian on Senior Day

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – On the final home Saturday of the 2015-16 season, the Kalamazoo College women's basketball honored its seniors in style with a 75-56 win over the visiting Adrian College Bulldogs inside Anderson Athletic Center.

With seniors Claire Slaughter, Kelsey Adamski and Kyra Walenga all in the starting lineup, the Hornets jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with Adamski scoring four of the five points.

Down 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, Kalamazoo took control of the game with an 8-0 run beginning at the 5:57 mark of the second quarter.

K held a 32-26 halftime lead.

The Hornets came out of the break with even more energy, exploding for 24 points and building an insurmountable 56-41 lead heading into the fourth.

Danielle Simon provided energy for the Hornets from the get-go recording five rebounds, one steal and one block in the first quarter alone. She ended the afternoon with nine points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Emily Kozal paced the Hornets offensively with 23 points and went 4-of-5 from three point range.

Grace Smith and Adamski ended their afternoons with 14 and 16 points, respectively.

Despite shooting just 31.4 percent from the field, the Hornets' intensity on the glass was noticeable and they ended the day with a 46-39 advantage. Slaughter led the team with 11 rebounds.

Kalamazoo will look to carry its momentum on the road when the team begins a two-game road trip this Wednesday at Alma.
