Second half comeback comes up just short for Women's Basketball

ALMA, Mich. - A comeback effort by the Hornets came up just short in an 80-78 loss at Alma College on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo fell behind early and trailed 54-34 at halftime. The Hornets cut the deficit to 10 (55-45) midway through the third before finding themselves down 16 again early in the fourth (66-50). Kalamazoo continued to chip away and eventually cut the deficit to single digits with just over a minute to play. Kalamazoo was down four with 13 seconds when an Alma free throw made it a five-point game. Suzanne Miller hit a three for Kalamazoo as time expired resulting in the two-point loss.

Alma shot 50 percent overall compared to 44.3 percent for Kalamazoo. The Hornets held a 39-32 advantage in rebounds, including 20-14 on the offensive end.

Suzanne Miller led K in scoring with 18 points. Grace Smith finished with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Danielle Simon scored 14 points with six rebounds and four assists while Emily Kozal added 14 points with four rebounds and four assists.

Kalamazoo returns to action Saturday, Feb. 4 at Saint Mary's.
