Women's Basketball defeats Washington College

Emily Kozal playing basketball.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball wrapped up its week in Florida with a 62-59 victory over Washington College on Wednesday morning.

Kalamazoo led 15-12 after the first quarter behind 11 points from Emily Kozal. The game remained close throughout the first half and K went into halftime leading 27-26.

The Hornets widened their lead in the third to lead by eight heading into the fourth. In the final period, Washington chipped away at the K lead until it was a one point game with six seconds remaining. The Hornets kept their nerve and a pair of free throws by Danielle Simon secured the win for Kalamazoo.

Emily Kozal built on her 22 point performance on Monday with another strong offensive outing as she poured in a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds. In addition to her game-clinching free throws, Danielle Simon added 16 points. Mya Gough pulled down seven rebounds to go along with five points.

Caitlyn Clark led Washington with 19 points on 10-10 shooting from the free throw line.

K will return to the court after the holidays as they travel to Calumet College on December 30th for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
