Kozal named to BCAM Academic Team

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team's senior captain Emily Kozal has added another honor to her decorated career as she has been named to the Basketball Coaches of Michigan (BCAM) Women's College Academic Team.

Kozal, a shooting guard from Ada, led her team in several categories this past season including scoring (15.6 ppg), three-pointers made (46), free throws made (87) and free throw percentage (80.6). She also finishes her career sixth on the Kalamazoo all-time scoring list with 1,156 points and third in program history with 143 made three pointers. The 2015-16 MIAA scoring champion, Kozal was named to the All-MIAA Second Team this season, along with fellow senior Danielle Simon.

Off the court, the Spanish and Business double major holds a 3.71 GPA and is an MIAA Academic Honor Roll honoree. She studied abroad for six months in Valparaiso, Chile during her junior year and has been widely involved in the Kalamazoo community during her time at K. She has served as a GED tutor, Girls on the Run coach, and Special Olympics partner and is an intern at Farmworker Legal Services where she has used her Spanish language skills to serve migrant workers in the Kalamazoo area.

Kozal is joined on the BCAM Academic team by women from Central Michigan, Northwood, Ferris State, and University of Michigan-Dearborn.
