KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team got off to a quick start Sunday afternoon, but was defeated by the Eureka College Red Devils 92-61 at Anderson Athletic Center.

The Hornets (1-3) raced out to a double-digit lead to begin the game. Jackie Brines opened the scoring with a layup, and a Darby Scott three-pointer was sandwiched by a pair of threes from Kaytlyn Tidey to give K an 11-0 lead with 7:39 remaining in the first quarter.

Eureka fought back to take a 16-15 lead with 3:00 left in the quarter by deploying a full-court press that gave the Hornets fits, and then closed out the quarter on a 11-2 run to take a 27-17 advantage into the second quarter.

The Red Devils then kept up the pressure in the second quarter, outscoring the Hornets 25-12 to take a commanding 52-29 lead into the half. Kalamazoo cut the margin to 58-40 on a Laila Vincent layup with 6:19 remaining in the third quarter but was not able to whittle the lead down any further.

Vincent led the Hornets with 21 points and stuffed the stat sheet with nine rebounds and a team-high four blocks. Kaelyn Arlington's 11 rebounds paced K and she chipped in 10 points for a double-double. Tidey added 11 points and a pair of assists.

Eureka had advantages in turnovers (15-32), points in the paint (58-30) and steals (11-1). They shot 44 percent from the field (37-84), while the Hornets shot the ball at a 34 percent clip (21-61).

Next up for Kalamazoo is a 7 p.m. home game on Wednesday against Olivet.
