Women's Basketball Defeated by No. 2 Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated by the Trine University Thunder by a score of 79-35 Monday night at Anderson Athletic Center.

The Hornets hung with Trine, ranked No. 2 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, early in the game. The first quarter ended with the home squad trailing by eight, 22-14.

Laila Vincent's bucket with 6:46 remaining in the second quarter brought K to within six, 22-16, but Trine promptly showed why they are ranked so highly. The Thunder scored the final 22 points of the quarter to take a 44-16 lead into the halftime break and Kalamazoo was unable to seriously threaten in the second half.

Kaelyn Arlington led the Hornets (3-18, 1-11 MIAA) with 10 points while Vincent chipped in seven points and a team-high six rebounds. Sara English scored six points and collected two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. 

For the game, Trine shot the ball at a 49% clip overall, while Kalamazoo could manage just 29%. Trine also claimed advantages in rebounds (43-28), assists (18-10), steals (16-6) and blocks (5-1).

Next up for the Hornets is a Saturday road trip to Adrian, where they will face the Bulldogs for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
