Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Olivet

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 64-58 at home by The University of Olivet on Saturday afternoon.

After Olivet scored the game's first basket, Kalamazoo went ahead and led by as many as nine (11-2) in the first quarter before taking a 33-30 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo led until 8:32 left in the fourth quarter when Olivet went ahead 49-48. Kalamazoo tied it with a free throw before Olivet went ahead again and held the lead to the end. The Hornets were never more than six points down but could not tie or regain the lead in the final minutes.

Olivet shot 37.1 percent overall compared to 38.2 percent by Kalamzoo. The Comets shot 58.3 percent in the fourth quarter compared to 27.3 percent by the Hornets.

Kalamazoo outrebounded Olivet 45-34 overall, 10-8 on the offensive end. Olivet scored 27 points off 29 Kalamazoo turnovers. Kalamazoo scored 16 points off 17 Olivet turnovers.

Sara English led the Hornets with a career-high 23 points while shooting 7-of-11 overall, 4-for-6 on three-pointers, and 5-for-6 on free throws. 

Jordan Wesaw scored 11 points with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Jackie Brines scored eight points with four rebounds and three assists. Ruby Hogan scored seven points with nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. Kaelyn Arlington added seven points with 11 rebounds.

Kalamazoo returns to non-conference play on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Northwestern Ohio. The Hornets are back home on Saturday, Dec. 16, facing Defiance at 3 p.m.
