Women's Basketball Defeats Defiance

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Defiance College 67-44 at home Saturday afternoon.

Kalamazoo scored the game's first nine points and never trailed in the contest. Kalamazoo led 17-10 after the first quarter, 33-24 at halftime, and 47-35 at the end of the third.

Kalamazoo shot 39.3 percent overall while holding Defiance to 25.9 percent. Kalamazoo made 15-of-22 free throws compared to 8-of-18 by Defiance. The Hornets outrebounded the Yellowjackets 50-37, including 15-13 on the offensive end. Each team had 19 turnovers.

Ruby Hogan led a balanced scoring attack while recording her first career double-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds and three assists.

Kaelyn Arlington recorded her 11th career double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Jackie Brines scored 13 points with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

Jordan Wesaw scored 10 points with four rebounds.

Sara English added eight points with four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Taylor Dinda added seven points with rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.

Kalamazoo is back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Dominican University (Ill.). That game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Central.
