Ruby Hogan of the Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Wednesday (Dec. 20).
The Hornets continued their season with three non-conference games at Northwestern Ohio on Dec. 12, against Defiance at home on Dec. 16, and at Dominican on Dec. 19. Kalamazoo fell to the Racers 101-66 before picking up its first two wins of the season with a 67-44 victory over the Yellow Jackets and a 68-49 win over the Stars.
Hogan did it all for the Hornets after averaging 16.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in the three contests. She shot 51.4% (19 of 37) from the field and was 83.3% (10 of 12) from the free throw line. In the first game, she scored a season-high 19 points, adding four rebounds and three assists. Then, in the two wins, Hogan turned in dominant performances with two double-doubles and a near triple-double. Against Defiance, she had 14 points and 14 rebounds with three assists before filling out the stat sheet against Dominican with 16 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. In her first collegiate basketball season, Hogan leads the team with 12.5 points per game while averaging 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.8 steals as well. She has scored double-digit points in eight of the 10 games.
Kalamazoo will continue its season after the holiday with two neutral site games in Daytona Beach, Fla., against Endicott on Wednesday (Dec. 27) and Clarkson on Thursday (Dec. 28).
