Women's Basketball Defeats Clarkson

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team wrapped up its trip to Florida with a 57-44 win over Clarkson University on Thursday.

Kalamazoo led 13-7 after the first quarter and 33-21 at halftime. Clarkson opened the second half with 10 straight points to cut the deficit to two (33-31), but the Hornets scored the next eight to lead 41-31 at the end of the third. Kalamazoo, which never trailed in the contest, outscored Clarkson 16-13 in the fourth to seal the win.

Kalamazoo shot 36.7 percent overall while holding Clarkson to 24.6 percent. The Hornets made 6-of-15 from three-point range compared to 5-of-23 by the Golden Knights. Each team made seven free throws. 

Kalamazoo outrebounded Clarkson 48-39, with the Golden Knights holding a 14-12 edge on the offensive end.

Sara English led the Hornets with 20 points. The senior scored 11 in the first quarter and nine in the second, finishing the half 6-of-6 from three-point range. 

Jordan Wesaw recorded her first double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds with four steals.

Kaelyn Arlington finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. 

Ruby Hogan led the team with seven assists.

Kalamazoo returns to MIAA play on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Saint Mary's College.
