Women's Basketball Falls at Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 76-69 at Saint Mary's College on Wednesday.

The host Belles led by as many as 11 in the first half before taking a 34-31 lead into halftime.

The Hornets secured their first lead (42-41) with 3:42 left in the third. The game was back-and-forth from that point, with Kalamazoo taking its largest lead (66-62) with 2:50 left in regulation. Saint Mary's proceeded to outscore Kalamazoo 14-3 over the final minutes, including 12 points on free throws.

Saint Mary's shot 33.8 percent overall compared to 32.4 percent by Kalamazoo. The Belles made 24-of-36 free throws compared to 18-of-26 by the Hornets. Saint Mary's held a 53-44 advantage in rebounds, including 16-13 on the offensive end.

Ruby Hogan led Kalamazoo with 18 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Kaelyn Arlington scored 18 points with seven rebounds.

Jackie Brines finished with 13 points and five rebounds.

Sara English added seven points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Calvin on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m.
