Women's Basketball Defeated at Home by Calvin

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 73-47 at home by Calvin University on Saturday.

The Hornets held a slight lead early but trailed 21-11 at the end of the first quarter. After an even second quarter (16-16), Kalamazoo still trailed by 10 at halftime (37-27). Calvin gradually extended its lead in the second half en route to the 73-47 final.

After shooting 52.9 percent in the first half, Kalamazoo finished the game at 32.6 percent overall. Calvin shot 40.9 percent overall. The Knights sank 16-of-24 free throws compared to 12-of-17 by the Hornets. Calvin held a 39-38 edge in rebounds, including 17-12 on the offensive end. Calvin also scored 24 points off 24 Kalamazoo turnovers.

Ruby Hogan led the Hornets with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Jordan Wesaw scored 10 points with three rebounds.

Kaelyn Arlington added seven points with two rebounds. Sara English scored five points with two rebounds. Jackie Brines scored four points with four rebounds.

Josee Cooke scored five points with five rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Brittany Miller added five points with four rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes off the bench.

Kalamazoo travels to Hope next on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m.
