Women's Lacrosse falls to Calvin 20-12

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team lost 20-12 to Calvin in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play Saturday, April 26.

Kalamazoo fell in a hole early on as Calvin scored the first eight goals of the game. The Hornets trailed Calvin 11-4 at halftime. Kalamazoo could get no closer in the second half, but did score the final three goals of the game in the last three minutes.

Freshmen Anika Sproull and Anna Dariaghi each had a hat trick scoring three goals in the contest. Alivia DuQuet and Vethania Stavropoulos each scored two goals while Nicole Huff and Cecilia DiFranco added a single goal.

Both team transitioned from the defensive zone to the offensive zone successfully all game as Kalamazoo converted 12-13 clear attempts while Calvin was 20-23. The Knights held an advantage in shots (40-25) and a slim advantage in ground balls 17-16. The Hornets did win 19 draw controls compared to 14 for Calvin.

Ivy McKee took the loss in net for Kalamazoo but made seven saves in the process. Calvin took advantage of the free position attempt scoring on 5-8 free position shots.

Kalamazoo dips to 5-9 on the season with the loss and 2-5 in MIAA play. The Hornets will play their final game of their inaugural season tomorrow (Sunday), April 27 against Olivet. The game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
