AURORA, Ill. – Beginning a seven-game road trip and looking to gain its first win of the season, the Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was unable to do so as the Hornets fell on the road, 20-5, against Aurora University.

Kalamazoo held its own in the first half as the Hornets struck first when Anna Dairaghi found the back of the net.

After the Spartans countered with two goals of their own, Anika Sproull scored her first goal of the game leveling the score back at 2-2.

Sproull's second goal of the half along with Cecilia DeFranco's goal with 25 seconds remaining in the first half sent the Hornets to halftime all even at 4-4.

Aurora amped up its play in the second half scoring nine straight goals, which ultimately never allowed the Hornets to recover.

Sproull added her third goal of the game and eighth of the season with 17:20 to play.

The Spartans outshot Kalamazoo 34-14 in the contest and also held a slight edge in ground balls, 23-20.

The Hornets will look to rebound quickly as they travel to Benedictine tomorrow for a 2 p.m. face-off.
