In a release from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Thursday evening, Kalamazoo College's Katie Johnson was named the women's lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year along with being named to the conference's First Team.

Johnson, a sophomore from Okemos, Mich., was a stellar presence in goal for the Hornets all year making 149 saves, the most in the MIAA, as she help the Hornets earn their first MIAA postseason berth in program history.

She played every minute in goal for the Hornets this season and recorded a save percentage of 45.6 percent, the league's third highest percentage.

On three separate occasions, Johnson recorded a season-high 18 saves in 2016. She recorded a save percentage above 60 percent in five different games for the Hornets.

This is the second consecutive year Johnson has earned All-MIAA honors and her first time named Defensive Player of the Year. She was named to the league's Second Team in 2015 as a freshman.
