KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team started out its 2018 season on a high note with a victory over the weekend and the good news continued today as Amanda Moss has been MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

Moss, a junior midfielder from Bloomfield Hills, stuffed the stat sheet for the Hornets in their 15-2 win over Wilmington to open the season on Saturday. She was one of three players to tally three goals for K, with all three of her goals coming in the first half.

Not only was Moss a high scorer, but she was extremely efficient in front of goal, placing all four of her shots on target and converting on three of the four attempts. She also assisted on another Hornet goal to finish the game with a co-game high four points.

Moss contributed in various facets of the game aside from scoring as she led the team in ground balls with six and caused turnovers with four. She finished second on the team in draw controls with four in the contest.

Moss has been a consistent contributer for the women's lacrosse program in each of her two years at K. She has led the team in assists and points and finished first or second in goals in both of her previous seasons. This is her first MIAA Player of the Week selection, but she was an All-MIAA Second Team honoree following her sophomore season.

Coach Jess Smith said, "Amanda was instrumental in our 15-2 victory on Saturday.  She worked extremely hard to give the team extra possessions by picking up ground balls, causing turnovers, intercepting passes, and orchestrating double teams with her teammates.  We are very proud of her hard work and display of leadership in the first game of our 2018 season."

Kalamazoo will be back in action on Saturday, March 3rd as the team travels to Illinois Tech for 2 p.m. game.
