Moss takes home Defensive Player of the Week honors

Amanda Moss playing lacrosse.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – For the second time this season, Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse midfielder Amanda Moss has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

Moss, a junior from Bloomfield Hills, was an all-around threat for the Hornets in a pair of heartbreaking losses in the past week. In an 11-10 defeat on the road at Indiana Tech on Tuesday, Moss scored three goals for the Hornets, going 2-2 on free position shots. She also picked up a pair of ground balls, had one draw control, and forced three turnovers.

In Sunday's 13-12 loss to Notre Dame (OH), Moss found the back of the net twice, recorded two ground balls, two draw controls, and caused a game-high six turnovers. That performance gives Moss a team and league leading 14 caused turnovers for the season. A contributor offensively and defensively, she sits in second on the team in goals scored, assists, and total points.

This is Moss's third year as a starter and she has led the team in assists and points and finished first or second in goals scored in both of her previous seasons. She was a Second Team All-MIAA performer as a sophomore and this is her second career Player of the Week honor.

Coach Jess Smith said, "Amanda continues to set an example on the team with her work rate and intensity on the field through all of every game.  She is a factor all over the field, causing 9 turnovers and also scoring 5 goals in two games this week.  Not all of the plays Amanda makes are rewarded by stats, but she has a huge impact in games and helps her teammates to do the same. We are very proud of her being named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week twice in the first three weeks of the season."

Moss and her teammates will return to the field on Thursday, March 15 as they host Cleary at 7:00 p.m.
