Women's Lacrosse Defeats Aquinas

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team defeated Aquinas College 17-8 on Saturday.

Kalamazoo scored the first two goals of the contest, but railed 4-3 with 9:57 left in the first half. The Hornets pulled back ahead to lead 6-4 at halftime.

Aquinas evened the score at 6-6 two minutes into the second half, but Kalamazoo scored the next 9 goals to take a 15-6 lead with 11:43 remaining. The visiting Saints scored twice to make it 15-8 before Kalamazoo added two more goals to take the 17-8 win.

Kalamazoo outshot Aquinas 44-12 overall, including 36-11 on goal. The 44 shots set a new school record. The Hornets matched school records with 35 ground balls and 20 draw controls.

Rachel Madar led the Hornets with six goals and nine draw controls.

Caroline Mundell scored three goals with two assists. Sam Jacobsen scored twice while Leah Tardiff had two assist with five ground balls.

Lilly Baumann also recorded nine draw controls while Hannah Wolfe led the team with seven ground balls.

Kalamazoo (1-1) returns to action at home Wednesday, March 6 with a 7 p.m. start against Indiana Tech.
