KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was recognized today by the MIAA as Rachel Madar and Amanda Moss were named to All-MIAA teams.
Madar, a sophomore from DeWitt, Mich., followed an impressive first season with an equally explosive second year that earned her a spot on the All-MIAA First Team again. She passed the 70 point threshold for the second straight season with 67 goals and five assists on the year. Madar finished the season second in goals in the MIAA and fifth in points among conference foes.
Madar scored in all but two games this season for the Hornets. She tied her own program mark on April 6 at Alma when she found the back of the net nine times in Kalamazoo's 19-8 win at Alma.
Madar was atop the MIAA in draw controls as she collected 139 on the season. Her total draw controls and mark of 8.69 draw controls per game were both good for seventh best in NCAA DIII.
Coach Jess Smith said, "Repeating as a First Team honoree, especially in a conference with a lot of excellent midfielders, is a high honor ans well-deserved. Rachel had an excellent season despite consistently receiving a lot of defensive pressure from other teams and I'm excited that she has two years remaining as a Hornet."
Moss, a senior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., wrapped up her final season second on the team in goals and points while leading the Hornets in assists for the fourth straight year. Her efforts on the field earned her the at-large spot on the All-MIAA Second Team.
A four-year player for the Hornets, Moss started all 60 games of her Kalamazoo career. She finished her lacrosse career with 164 points on 109 goals and 55 assists. Her 164 points broke the school record for points in a career while she also improved on her program best assists total.
This marks the second season Moss has been named to the All-MIAA Second Team as she was selected as a sophomore in 2017.
Coach Smith stated, "As a two year captain, leader, and heart of our team, the All-MIAA recognition is a very fitting way to end Moss's excellent 4 year career."
"Rachel and Amanda are both very deserving of their All-MIAA honors," said Coach Smith on the duo. "Not only were they leaders on the field in games, but they are also some of the hardest working players on the team."
