Kalamazoo College's Natalie Maki was named MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
A freshman from Lake Orion, Mich. (Lake Orion), Maki was a key player in Kalamazoo's 12-11 overtime win at Adrian to open MIAA play on Saturday. She caused five turnovers and picked up four ground balls to earn valuable possessions for the Hornets. She also took all draws for the team, winning one to herself and getting others to teammates to allow Kalamazoo to win the draw control battle 15-11. On the offensive end, Maki also contributed a goal and an assist in the victory.
On the season, Maki has six goals and six assists with 26 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 19 caused turnovers.
Kalamazoo (7-4, 1-0 MIAA) is back in action Wednesday, April 13 at Calvin at 7 p.m.
