Women's Lacrosse Wins in Overtime at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team won 16-15 in overtime at Calvin on Wednesday.

Calvin led 5-4 after a back-and-forth first quarter. After falling behind 6-4 early in the second, Kalamzoo scored five straight to take a 9-6 lead. Following a Calvin goal, Kalamazoo scored two more to take an 11-7 lead into halftime.

Calvin scored the first three goals of the third quarter to make it 11-10, but two Hornet goals gave Kalamazoo a 13-10 lead at the end of three. Kalamazoo went up 15-10 with 8:02 left in regulation. The Hornets still held the five-goal lead with with just under five minutes remaining, but Calvin scored five goals in the final 4:53, including the tying goal with six seconds left on the clock.

After missed attempts by both teams in overtime, Tessa Fuller scored the game-winner with 11 seconds left on the clock.

Calvin outshot Kalamazoo 32-27 overall, 26-25 on goal. Kalamazoo won 21 of the 35 draw controls.

Hannah Heeren and Ella Spooner each scored four goals.

Sophie Hartl scored three goals with an assist. Tessa Fuller scored two goals with four assists.

Julia Kozal scored twice, while Jordan Doyle finished with two assists.

Heeren led the Hornets with 11 draw controls. Annslee Ware led the team wtih three caused turnovers.

Jordan Flink was credited with 11 saves in goal.

Kalamazoo returns home to host Hope College on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m.
