Women's Lacrosse Falls to Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was defeated 18-8 by Albion College on Tuesday night at MacKenzie Field.

Albion scored in the first minute and didn't score again until 7:55, but the Britons led 5-0 with 3:33 left in the first. Kalamazoo scored with 2:47 remaining, but another Briton goal put Albion up 6-1 at the end of the first. 

Kalamazoo cut the deficit to 7-4 midway through the second quarter before Albion scored five straight to take a 12-4 lead into halftime.

The Britons went up 14-4 early in the third. Kalamazoo cut it to nine (14-5) but trailed 16-6 at the end of three. The Hornets tralied by nine (17-8) late in the fourth before a final Briton goal made it 18-8 in favor of Albion.

Albion outshot Kalamazoo 34-30, 24-21 on goal. Albion's goalkeeper made 13 saves on the night. Kalamazoo won 16 of the 27 draw controls.

Ella Spooner led Kalamazoo with five goals and four draw controls.

Hannah Heeren scored a goal and had an assist with four ground balls and 10 draw controls.

Sophie Hartl had a goal, two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Julia Kozal also had two caused turnovers.

Jordan Flink and Poppy Balkema each made three saves in goal.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday, April 20, at Saint Mary's College.
