KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team fell 15-11 in the MIAA Tournament Semifinals against Trine on Saturday.
Kalamazoo scored the first two goals, and then Trine tied the game up at two with 7:47 remaining in the first quarter. The Hornets scored at the 2:30 mark, but the Thunder scored twice in the final two minutes to take a 4-3 lead at the end of the first.
Trine controlled the second quarter and took a commanding 10-4 into halftime after scoring six of the seven goals in the 15-minute frame.
Kalamazoo started to battle its way back into the game by scoring three of the first four goals in the third quarter to make the score 11-7. However, the Thunder scored twice to regain the six-goal advantage before the quarter ended.
The Hornets started to get on a roll in the later part of the fourth quarter, but it was a little too late as Trine advanced to the MIAA Tournament Championship game against Hope.
Trine outshot Kalamzoo 34-26 overall, 27-22 on goal. The Hornets won 18 of the 29 draw controls.
Hannah Heeren collected four goals, 11 draw controls, and a caused turnover.
Tessa Fuller and Ella Spooner had two goals and an assist each. Jordan Doyle finished with a goal, two assists, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
Sophie Hartl scored a goal with seven draw controls and two ground balls. Natalie Maki also scored a goal and had three ground balls. Annslee Ware finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Jordan Flink was credited with 12 saves in goal and four ground balls.
