ADA, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team lost its season opener 4-1 at Ohio Northern University on Friday.

The host Polar Bears scored a pair of goals in a span of just over three minutes in the 21st and 24th minutes. Kalamazoo made it a 2-1 contest in the 39th minute when freshman Sydney Spring scored her first career goal (Jordan Meeth assist).

The score remained 2-1 through halftime before Ohio Northen added insurance goals in the 51st and 63rd minutes.

"Certainly we are disappointed in the end result," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings. "However, I was glad to see our team fight back and score after trailing by two goals early in the first half."

Ohio Northern held a 13-8 advantage in shots while successfully converting on four of seven shots on goal. Kalamazoo scored on one of five shots on goal.

Rachel Dandar had four shots on goal to lead Kalamazoo's offensive attack.

"We did not play our best game tonight, but we look forward to getting back on the field tomorrow and working toward a better result," added Goyings.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at Heidelberg College.
