KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Saint Mary's College (Ind.) 1-0 in overtime at MacKenzie Field on Thursday.

Kalamazoo's Sam Voss scored the game-winning goal 8:16 into the first overtime period (Jordan Lewis assist).

"It was nice to see another senior step up and score the game-winning goal," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings.

Saint Mary's outshot Kalamazoo 21-12 in 90 minutes of regulation with neither team able to put a shot past goal. Each team had two shots in the overtime period giving the Belles a 23-14 advantage overall and an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Lucy Mailing made 11 saves in goal to earn her third consecutive shutout.

Despite being outshot, Goyings praised the Hornet defense.

"I thought our back line, and especially Allie Brodsky and Jordan Meeth, did an outstanding job tonight really preventing Saint Mary's from getting good shot opportunities," Goyings said.

"Saint Mary's is always a tough opponent and an overtime win is a nice continuation of the start of the MIAA season."

Kalamazoo returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 14 with a 12 p.m. contest at Olivet College.
