OLIVET - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team lost its first MIAA contest of the season, 1-0, at Olivet College on Saturday.

Olivet (4-1, 1-1) scored the first and only goal of the game just 42 seconds into the contest.

"We got off to a slow start," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings. "Olivet converted early on and made it a challenge to fight back."

Each team finished with 11 shots overall while Kalamazoo held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal, including several promising scoring opportunities in the second half.

"The team showed good heart in battling to try to get the equalizer in the second half," Goyings added. "We need to work on converting on our opportunities, especially when applying pressure late in the game."

"Lucy Mailing had some big saves, particularly early in the second half to help keep us in the game."

Kalamazoo (3-2, 2-1) returns to action at Albion College on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
