ALMA - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team was held scoreless in a 3-0 loss at Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday.

Alma scored a pair of goals in a span of 54 seconds early in the first half (13:59 and 14:53) and took the 2-0 lead into halftime. The Scots added a third goal in the 57th minute.

"We really struggled to recover from that one bad minute 14 minutes into the game," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings.

Alma (7-4, 7-1 MIAA) outshot Kalamazoo 15-5 overall, including 8-3 on goal.

Alex Groffsky led the Hornets offensive attack with two shots on goal.

Lucy Mailing made five saves in goal for the Hornets.

"Jordan Lewis was a bright spot for our team today," said Goyings. "She worked tirelessly on the flank creating several dangerous opportunities off crosses that we were just unable to convert. Her ball winning was also noteworthy."

Kalamazoo (4-7, 3-5 MIAA) returns to action at Trine University on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m.

"We have played everone in the league once and the second round beginning on Tuesday will be a strong gauge of our improvement," Goyings said. "I know that the team and myself are both looking forward to the challenge of bettering our record from the first half of the conference slate."
