ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team opened the second half of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a 1-0 win at Trine University on Tuesday.

"Today's win was a positive start to the second round of MIAA play," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings."

Emma Tardiff scored the game's only goal in the 41st minute of the first half. Elizabeth Clevenger was credited with the assist.

"Emma's goal was a very composed finish," said Goyings. "Getting the goal right before half was huge and really provided us with momentum going into the second half."

Kalamazoo outshot Trine 17-9 overall, including 9-3 on goal.

Lucy Mailing made three saves in goal to earn the shutout for the Hornets.

"Recording a shutout was a testament to the strong defending displayed by the team as a whole," Goyings added.

Kalamazoo returns to action at Saint Mary's College on Saturday, Oct. 12 at noon. The Hornets defeated the Belles 1-0 in overtime at home earlier this season.

"I expect Saint Mary's to be prepared for us and it should be a great MIAA soccer match on Saturday," Goyings said.
