KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Albion College 6-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at MacKenzie Field on Homecoming Saturday.

Sam Voss scored Kalamazoo's first goal just over five minutes into the contest. Suzanne Miller added a goal in the ninth minute on an assist from Bronte Payne. The Hornets carried the 2-0 lead into halftime.

"It was great to see Sam get us on the board with an early goal," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings. "One of our objectives today was to score early and we met that."

Elizabeth Clevenger, Paige Sambor, and Emma Tardiff each scored in the second half along with an own goal to give Kalamazoo the 6-0 win. Payne and Miller each had an assist in the second half.

Six goals was Kalamazoo's highest offensive output of the season.

"We have been searching for an offensive rhythm the past several weeks so I was very happy to see us record several goals on the day all generated by different players," Goyings said. "Also, Bronte Payne was very good out of the midfield, recording two assists and creating the own goal."

The Hornets outshot Albion 29-5, including 25-3 on goal.

Lucy Mailing made two saves in 72 minutes in goal while Colleen Corrigan made one save over the final 18 minutes to preserve the shutout.

Kalamazoo (7-8, 6-6 MIAA) returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 22 with a 7 p.m. contest at Adrian.

"It was nice to win on Homecoming and even our record in MIAA play," Goyings added. "Tuesday will be a challenging game against a strong Adrian team."
