Hornets defeat Pioneers 3-0

Elizabeth Clevenger playing soccer

The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team beat the Transylvania Pioneers 2-0 on Saturday morning. The game was initially supposed to be played Friday evening, but was rescheduled due to a power outage.

"I'm very happy with the win this morning," said head coach Bryan Goyings. "I thought the women did a great job coming to play after a postponement yesterday evening."

The Hornets had control of the ball for the majority of the game, outshooting Transylvania 15-4. Even with the Hornets' four shots on goal in the first half, both teams remained scoreless at halftime.

In the second half sophomore Elizabeth Clevenger broke the tie with a goal in the 62nd minute. Sophomore Suzanne Miller put the Hornets up 2-0 with a goal of her own with less than 10 minutes left in the game.

Kalamazoo is undefeated so far this season with a record of 3-0. Saturday's game was the team's third straight shutout, as they've yet to give up a goal this season.

"The past two weeks have prepared us well for the MIAA," Goyings said. However, there are no easy games in the MIAA."

The women will have their first MIAA match on Monday Sept. 8 as they travel to take on conference opponent Trine.
