Hornets defeated by Trine Univeristy

Paige Sambor playing soccer

The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team lost Monday afternoon on the road 1-0 against conference opponent Trine University. It was the first loss of the year for the Hornets, who are now 3-1 this season.

The Hornets had plenty of opportunities to score in this game. They attempted 14 shots on goal while Trine only attempted three. Paige Sambor led Kalamazoo with four shots on goal. Trine's goal was the first that Kalamazoo has allowed this season.

This was the Hornet's first game in MIAA conference play. Head Coach Bryan Goyings knows the competition is only going to get tougher as the conference games continue.

"Disappointing result for the team today," Goyings said. "I thought our effort and preparation was strong but we struggled to finish. It's certainly something we'll need to improve on to compete in the conference."

Kalamazoo will look to get back on track Thursday, Sept. 11 against conference opponent Saint Mary's (Ind.).
