Hornets beat Hope

Hornets beat Hope

The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Hope 1-0 on Tuesday night, handing the MIAA leading Flying Dutch their first conference loss of the year. The Hornets are now 7-2-1 this season, and 4-2-1 in conference play.

Kalamazoo knew the night was going to be tough considering the Flying Dutch came into the game winning their previous six matches by a combined score of 17-3. The Hornets, not overwhelmed by the challenge at all came to play, especially on the defensive end of the ball.

While Hope did lead the Hornets in shots on goal 8-4, Kalamazoo got the only shot that really mattered —a header from Madison Moote off a corner from Katie Sorensen that scored the game's only goal. Moote's goal came in the 35th minute.

Lucy Mailing continued her dominance between the posts with her sixth shutout performance of the year. She was tested early and often tonight and came up with eight saves.

The women play again next Saturday, Oct 4 at home against conference opponent Alma.
