Women's Soccer falls in season opener

The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team hoped to begin the 2015 season with a win against No. 11 University of Chicago, but the Maroons lived up to their preseason ranking dropping the Hornets 4-0 Tuesday afternoon.

All four of the Maroons' goals were scored in the first half of play with the first goal being scored in just the sixth minute by Jenna McKinney.

"Chicago is an outstanding team and we struggled to break their rhythm in the first half," Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "I was pleased with how we responded in the second half and thought our defending improved as the game progressed."

The Hornets were unable to get anything going in the attacking third, recording just two shots and zero shots on goal. Chicago ended the game with a 24-2 advantage in the overall shot category.

Allie Brodsky and Madeleine Chilcote each recorded shots for the Hornets while Grace Smith made seven saves in goal.

The Hornets will look to rebound on Friday, Sept. 4 when they take on DePauw University on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan.
