The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team picked up an important three points on the road this afternoon in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association by defeating Albion College, 1-0.

Coming into the match, K stood just one point clear of Albion for fourth place in the MIAA, and with today's results, the Hornets have moved into the third position in the league table.

Madeleine Chilcote scored the game-winning goal, and the game's only goal, unassisted in the 81st minute of play. The goal was her third of the season and second game-winning goal.

"Maddie had a precise finish and it was nice to see her hard work rewarded with the goal," Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "It will be important to build on this win as we look to finish the first round of league play on a positive note."

Grace Smith recorded the clean sheet in goal for the Hornets saving four Albion shots. It was her fourth clean sheet of the season.

Goyings noted his backline did well to help preserve the shutout.

"Albion has several dangerous players that really challenged our team defending," he said.

With the win, Kalamazoo now boasts a 4-2-1 record in the MIAA and travels to Olivet for another important road match on Saturday, Oct. 3. Start time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
