KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team picked up three important points Saturday afternoon as the end of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season inches nearer and nearer. The Hornets defeated the visiting Adrian College Bulldogs, 2-0.

After recording 14 shots in the first 44 minutes of play, Kalamazoo made its 15th shot count with just two seconds remaining in the half as Paige Sambor slotted a ball past Adrian's Lexi Lewandowski. Katie Sorensen recorded the assist on a play that began with a Sarah George free kick from the left side of the field.

"Near the end of the first half I felt we found a good rhythm," Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "Paige scoring the goal right before halftime really put us in a great spot going into the second half."

Controlling the majority of the play throughout the game in its entirety, Sydney Spring gave the Hornets their second goal of the game in the 52nd minute as Allie Brodsky played a clever ball through giving Spring just one defender to beat.

"The build up and finish on Sydney's goal was one of our best team goals this season," Goyings said.

Kalamazoo ended the match with 22 total shots while Adrian recorded just four.

Grace Smith needed to make just two saves on the way to her sixth clean sheet of the season.

"This was an important home win and continuing to play well is critical as we enter the last couple of games on the league schedule," Goyings said.

As a result of the win, Kalamazoo improves to 8-8-1 overall and 8-5-1 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo will play its final two games of the regular season at home beginning with a match next Saturday, Oct. 31 against Albion. Kickoff is set for noon.
