KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw Monday evening at MacKenzie Field with Olivet College, but the game wasn't without multiple threatening scoring opportunities.

Olivet carried play throughout the first half recording 10 shots, while Kalamazoo had just five. Grace Smith's breakaway save in the 8th minute of play kept the score in the balance early in the first half and into halftime.

"I thought we were a step slow to start and it may have been the quick turn around after playing Saturday and a solid opponent tonight," Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings said.

The Hornets came out in the second half and controlled play, outshooting the Comets 8-2.

"I thought we improved as the game progressed and played our best soccer in the second half. Grace continues to play well for us and the backline posted a third straight shutout," Goyings said.

After heading to overtime all square, Kalamazoo's strongest chance came with just over two minutes remaining in the second overtime as Sarah George struck a ball off the crossbar.

With the result, Kalamazoo secured itself third place in the final MIAA regular season rankings. The Hornets will travel to Hope College on Thursday, Nov. 5 for a semi-final match up with the Flying Dutch. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

"Front to back I am extremely proud of what this group has accomplished so far and I am really looking forward to a chance to play again on Thursday," Goyings said.
