HOLLAND, Mich. - In a rematch of last season's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament Championship and with a berth in this year's Championship match on the line, the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team was unable to come away with a victory in Thursday evening's semifinal match. Hope defeated the Hornets, 2-0.

Sarah Fazio got the Flying Dutch on the board in the 19th minute when she scored off a corner kick from Eliza Beird.

"Hope put us under heavy pressure to start the game and we had to play catch up after conceding the first goal," Head Coach Bryan Goyings said.

After heading to halftime with the score 1-0, Hope added its second goal of the match when Erin Brophy slotted one past Grace Smith.

Zoe Barnes led the Hornets with three shots on goal in the match. Madison Moote and Sarah George each added a shot on frame for the Hornets as well.

Smith made 11 saves in the match for K.

"Grace saw a lot of shots and did well to keep us within striking distance but we really struggled to find an offensive rhythm this evening," Goyings said.

Kalamazoo ends its season with an overall record of 9-9-2 after tonight's result. With the team losing no players to graduation this year, the Hornets will once again contend for an MIAA Championship in 2016.

"The record may only be .500 but the season that these kids put together is something to be noted," Goyings said. "We never played more than 14 players in any one game this year and there were games when we didn't make any substitutions. The reason that you coach at a small school is the opportunity to work with these individuals that invest everything they have to be excellent students and great athletes. I feel very fortunate to be the coach of this group."
