In a release from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Monday afternoon, Sarah George was named the conference's defensive player of the week for her contributions during the Hornets' two wins over Albion and Olivet.

"I am both thrilled and proud of Sarah," Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "She continues to work diligently to improve her defending. Her free kicks and service on set pieces are tremendous assets to have on our team."

George, who spent most of her time at center back with spells in midfield this past week, helped Kalamazoo remain undefeated in the MIAA as the team recorded clean sheets against both the Britons and Comets.

A Royal Oak native, George also proved her worth in the attacking third as she tacked on the second goal in the 2-0 win over Olivet off a free kick from 30 yards out. She ended the game against the Comets with five total shots.

George was named offensive player of the week during the 2015 campaign, but this is the first time in her career she's been named the league's defensive player of the week.

"It is a great honor for Sarah but I know she would agree it is representative of the strong group defending the team has demonstrated over the past several games," Goyings said.

Kalamazoo, currently 7-0-1 and sitting atop the MIAA standings, travels to Hope College on Tuesday, Oct. 4 for a match with first place implications. The two teams are scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. in Holland.
