The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team was named an academic award winner Thursday, Oct. 6 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the 2015-16 academic year.

In order to be eligible for the award, the team's cumulative grade point average had to register higher than a 3.0. The Hornets boasted a 3.53 team GPA.

"This is another notable honor which recognizes the tremendous commitment these women have made to learning," Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "They have set a standard of academic excellence. It is an honor to work with individuals that rightly prioritize their education. I am grateful for their efforts and eagerly anticipate their continued success in the classroom and post-graduation."

The Hornets are one of 578 schools in the country to earn the distinction and Kalamazoo is just one of 222 schools in the nation to have both its women's and men's teams awarded the recognition.

Kalamazoo, which has been equally impressive on the field this season with an 8-0-1 MIAA record, will take on Trine University Friday evening at MacKenzie Field.
