ALBION, Mich. – Looking to clinch at least a share of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship Saturday afternoon, the celebration was put on hold as the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team fell to Albion College, 2-1, on the road.

With Albion holding a 1-0 lead at the half, the Britons struck again late in the second half as Dominque Sarnecky extended their lead to 2-0.

"Albion made the most of their opportunities and they did an excellent job limiting our offensive chances," Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "Having to beat teams twice in a single season is what makes this league extremely challenging."

Kalamazoo's leading goal scorer, Emma Tardiff, cut the Britons' lead in half with five minutes remaining in regulation as the Hornets looked to mount a comeback but they never could find an equalizer.

Kalamazoo held the slight edge in shots on the afternoon, outshooting the Britons, 9-7.

Despite the loss, Kalamazoo still controls its own destiny for securing the No. 1 seed in the MIAA postseason tournament. With a win at Olivet on Monday, the Hornets will clinch their first MIAA regular season championship since 1999.

"We look forward to the opportunity to play for a conference championship on Monday," Goyings said.
