KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team continues to earn individual accolades as Libby Munoz and Sarah George were named All-Central Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in a release today. Munoz was selected for Second Team honors while George was selected to the Third Team.
Munoz, a sophomore forward from Leland, earns her first All-Region recognition after an outstanding offensive season for the Hornets. She led the MIAA this season with 19 goals and was second in the conference with 42 points. She led K in goals, points, and assists, and her nine game winning goals led all of NCAA DIII. Munoz also earned her first First Team All-MIAA honors this season as well as multiple MIAA Offensive Player of the Week selections.
"Libby proved to be one of the most prolific attackers not just in the region but also in the country. She ranked 21st nationally in total goals scored and first in game winning goals," said Coach Bryan Goyings.
George, a junior captain from Royal Oak, anchored the Hornet defense this season as she moved between the backline and center midfield. In addition to her defensive efforts, she was a constant threat from set pieces and recorded two goals and three assists for a total of seven points. George, who earned her second career Second Team All-MIAA selection this season, is also making her first appearance on an All-Central Region team.
Coach Goyings said, "Sarah's individual defending and versatility, allowing her to play anywhere along the backline and step into the midfield at times throughout the season proved to be a tremendous asset to our team."
Coach Goyings also said, "It is fantastic to have both Libby and Sarah recognized by the other coaches in the region. I am grateful for their contributions during the season and know this recognition would not be possible without both their own and the team's collective diligence and determination to be the best."
Kalamazoo finished the season 11-8-1 overall and fourth in the MIAA standings.
