KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team capped off a big week that included two conference wins to stay in the postseason hunt with an individual recognition as freshman Catie Stamper was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

The Hornets began the week with a 3-1 win at home against Albion who was undefeated in MIAA play prior to the match. Stamper was a key contributor on the back line for Kalamazoo while making runs forward and even contributing a shot on goal.

Over the weekend, Stamper and the Hornets traveled to Notre Dame, Ind. for a match with Saint Mary's. In the 5-0 victory over the Belles, Stamper found herself in the mix on offense once again and the freshman from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Loy Norrix HS) picked up her second goal of her college career and first in MIAA play.

Over the season, Stamper has seen her playing time increase each week and found herself playing all 90 minutes in each match this past week.

"Catie has really come on strong the past several games," said coach Bryan Goyings. "She mad a great run up the field on the goal against Saint Mary's. Most importantly, she represents the strong defending from our back line that has been paramount to each of the team's three MIAA victories thus far this season."

This marks the first time Stamper has been honored as the Player of the Week in the MIAA in her young career.

The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they host Olivet for Senior Night. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
